14 December 2021 (by admin)

Please see below our termly update for Spanish learning here at Seely.

In KS1 the focus is on Speaking and Listening and the emphasis is on verbal learning rather than physical recording.

Year 1 are introduced to Spanish through a variety of videos and songs within their own classroom.  This term they have experienced greetings, numbers to 1-10 and colours.

Year 2 have short weekly lessons with Mrs Perry and have been introduced to greetings, numbers to 10, colours and how to say their name and age.  The emphasis is on speaking and listening.

Year 3

In Year 3 Spanish becomes statutory and children have their own Spanish book to record their work.  They have learned greetings with a variety of responses to the question ¿Qué tal? They have learned to say what their name is in response to the question ¿Cómo te llamas? And have learned numbers up to 15.  They can state their age.  They have looked at 12 colours and can use these in very simple sentences to describe things.

Year 4

In Year 4 the children have begun counting up to 39.  They have been learning about animals in an animal park so that they identify feminine and masculine nouns and can make these plural.  They have revised months and can write the date in Spanish and can say when their birthday is and when friends and family have their birthdays.  They have been working towards combining learning from Year 3 and this term in Y4 to produce a short piece of writing ‘All about Me’.

Year 5

In Year 5 the children have looked at Food and how to express likes and dislikes.  They have written these using sentence builders to support their writing.  They have learned 10 weather phrases and given opinions of types of weather before writing ‘forecasts’ for Spain using points of the compass.

Year 6

Year 6 children had a look at the Food topic and learned to express opinions.  They have also been learning how to describe their personality, appearance and character and can describe others using the third person form of the verbs. They have had opportunities to practise vocabulary in paired speaking and listening games.
