Literacy
This will be the last week focusing on key skills. These skills include: expanded noun phrases, modal verbs, prepositional phrases, inverted commas and commas for clarity. Follow each PowerPoint for a brief overview and complete your selected activity.

Science - Famous Scientists & Inventors
For science this week you will start a new topic. Each lesson will explore a different scientist or inventor. This week you will study Stephen Hawking, you can either complete the activities set with the work or create your own piece of work based around the scientist or inventor like a poster, PowerPoint presentation or factfile.

SMSC
This weeks SMSC activities are exploring self esteem, self reflection and making targets for yourself.
Numeracy
This week you will be doing activities based on converting measurements. Follow each PowerPoint each day and then complete the activity based on the difficulty level you feel comfortable with. Use the place value mat to help you move the digits across when multiplying and dividing by 10,100 or 1,000.

This weeks topic lesson is about the Mayans writing system. You'll learn about Mayan Logogram and have a try at creating your own too. Follow the PowerPoint for instructions.

Peer Mediator Application - Deadline 12th June
Peer Mediator Applications are still open. This is an excellent opportunity for you all and comes with great responsibility. Your role will be to sort out and prevent problems on the playground during breaks and lunchtimes, as well as supporting younger children who may be upset. Full training will be provided on how to deal with certain situations, so if you are interested please write an application letter addressed to Mrs Newton. You can apply to be a peer mediator by either emailing the year 5 address your application or posting directly to Mrs Newton at school. When applying think about the skills you have that would make you a fantastic peer mediator. Email the year 5 email address if you would like any help with writing your letter.
