Literacy
This is the second week of literacy work based on the Firebird story. Follow the PowerPoint for each lesson and the planning will give you a brief overview. This week will finish with your own narrative based on the story try and follow the same procedures you would at school by editing your work and checking for spelling and punctuation errors.

SMSC - VE Day
This week we have found lots of great activities all about VE Day. Children should know about this monumental day in European history as it was a defining moment in World War II because it marked the end of the conflict in Europe.
Numeracy
This week the focus for numeracy is on reflections. Again follow the PowerPoint for each lesson, which gives explanations and examples. On the planning document there is a link to reflection activities if you cannot access a printer. You don't have to complete every sheet, pick the right level of ability for you.

Topic - Mayans
We're moving onto lesson 2 this week of the Mayans topic. This is all about Mayans religion and their gods. Again follow the PowerPoint for the lesson then create a fact file about one of the gods. This doesn't need to be completed on the sheet at all.

Peer Mediator Applications
Peer Mediator Applications are still open. This is an excellent opportunity for you all and comes with great responsibility. Your role will be to sort out and prevent problems on the playground during breaks and lunchtimes, as well as supporting younger children who may be upset. Full training will be provided on how to deal with certain situations, so if you are interested please write an application letter addressed to Mrs Newton. You can apply to be a peer mediator by either emailing the year 5 address your application or posting directly to Mrs Newton at school. When applying think about the skills you have that would make you a fantastic peer mediator. Email the year 5 email address if you would like any help with writing your letter.
