Welcome to Year 5 and 6

This year due to having a Year 5/6 split we have begun a two year rolling programme of all the national curriculum subjects with the exception of Maths. The new curriculum is set out in such a way that this programme ensures that all Year 5 and 6 children are accessing all necessary skills.

This year we have two Year 6 classes, a split 5/6 class and two Year 5 classes:

Hi, we are Miss Pantry and Mr. Perez we are teaching year 6 again for the second year. We are delighted to have Mrs. Cragg as our wonderful Teaching Assistant again this year. Pop along and say Hola! as the classroom door is always open.

Hi, I am Ms. Capey and this year I have the opportunity to work with a mixed 5/6 class. I am lucky to be working alongside Teaching Assistant Miss Hussain. I look forward to meeting you at Parent's Evening in October.

Summer 2017

Year 6

SATs

 Its that time of year again when we are all working our socks off, towards achieving our best for the upcoming SATs week. This begins 8th May 2017.

DONT FORGET BREAKFAST CLUB IS AVAILABLE FOR YEAR 6S FROM 8.15-8.45AM

 

Year 6 Performance

 After SATs it will be time to be creative. Time for auditions to start! So we can showcase our budding Thesbians.

Residential

 June 12th-15th at Ravenstore - Derbyshire. Enjoy!

Year 5

English and Maths.

We are following the new national curriculum in Maths and English. The Maths topics are number, ratio & proportion, algebra, measurement, geometry and statistics. We are having a focus on arithmetic and problem solving & reasoning. Please can children make a big effort to learn their times tables please!

In English this year, we have a greater focus on reading comprehension and grammar in addition to following the new national curriculum skills and focuses. Please can children remember to read frequently at home and learn their spellings each week!

Topic

This term we will be learning all about Nottingham, specifically the geography surrounding the UK and Nottingham itself.

Science

This term we're learning about lots of different scientists and inventors. What they’re famous for and how they’ve impacted on the world around us.

RE

This term we are focusing on Buddhism. Learning about their different beliefs and practices.

 

Trips

Our trips planned for this term are:

  • Oakwood transition trips (prices dependent on transport arranged closer to dates, events are free)

Music

Once again, music is provided by the fantastic Wider Opps music teachers. Music in year five allows children to further their skills in their instrument from year four. 

PE

Children will have two PE sessions each week, learning core skills in each physical area of the curriculum.

Please remember to send your children to school with an indoor and an outdoor PE kit (with appropriate footwear) on a Monday and take it home to wash on a Friday

Computing

Both year groups will be learning new computing skills through the use of our laptops and iPads. They will be furthering their skills in digital literacy, coding, internet safety.

Spanish

Sra Perry who will teach the Year five classes. Hola!

Homework

A piece of English and Maths homework will be given out weekly and must be completed.

Spring 2017

This term will be travelling to South America to find out what is special about the continent. We will also investigate why the rain forests are under threat and what we can do to help save them.

As Writers, our work will focus on persuasive writing and we will be trying our hand at journalism. We will continue to develop our writing skills which will be showcased in our Writing Portfolios and on our Wonderful Writing Wall.


As Mathematicians we will be working hard on the Y6 Curriculum, reasoning about fractions, decimals and percentages as well as consolidating our learning in geometry and getting to grips with algebra!


As Scientists we will investigate Forces at work in our environment and explaining how they affect movement and motion.


Homework in Literacy and Maths is set on Mondays and due in on Fridays. Spellings and Grammar are set on Tuesdays and are due back the following Tuesday. Reading should be done every day for 10-20 minutes and recorded in their Reading Record.

Autumn 2016

This term we are focusing on Buddhism. Learning about their different beliefs and practices.


Trips
Our trips planned for this term are:
• Da Vinci Exhibition at the Castle (Sept £2)
• Theatre company in school (Oct £6)
• Partake to do Greek performance (Nov £5)
• Cinema Trips for selected children (Nov £2)


Music
Once again, music is provided by the fantastic Wider Opps music teachers. Music in year five allows children to further their skills in their instrument from year four. In year six, children have the option to continue their instrument as an extra music lesson, alongside their weekly music lesson which explores music in many ways.
