You can come here to find out all about the exciting things we’ve been doing at school and what we’ve got planned for this year. We’ll add new information and photos throughout the year so keep checking back.

Thank you for your continuous support with hearing your child read and learning keywords with them. It is having a positive impact on their reading skills and confidence. Please continue to write your name and a short comment in your child’s reading diary. As you are aware the children have daily phonic and weekly handwriting homework. Please help your child to learn their phonics and practise their handwriting

2S, 2J and 1/2A Our Year 2 classes are taught by Mrs. Schwanz and Mrs. Jeeves. 1/2A is taught by Miss. Allard.

This half term our Topic is Explorers! We'll be learning all about different countries and how to use maps to find our way around. In Science, we're learning all about plants. We'll be growing some of our own and making sure we look after them carefully. Make sure you take a look at your SPaG and Maths homework to find out what we've been learning each week. There's more details about homework below.

Don't forget to keep filling in your reading reward chart at home!

Year 1

Children will bring home phonics homework 

Year 2

This half term, children will be bringing home spellings and a SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) activity each week. Please try to practice and complete these with your child.
Some children will also bring home daily phonics homework.

Year 2 PE Days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday – please have your PE kit in school on these days and earrings removed.

Spring 2017

Trips this term

In Spring Term 2J, 2S and 12A will be visiting a Hindu Temple which should cost approximately £4. There will also be the option for Year 2 children to take part in Year 2 camp in our last half term of the year. This costs £20 (or £10 for those who have been awarded Free School Meals status).


During Spring 1 our Topic was ‘Chocolate!’ where we learnt all sorts of things such as where chocolate grows and what conditions are best, as well as reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. In Science, we learnt how to keep fit and healthy.

We also worked hard to produce some kaleidoscopic art which was projected on the wall of Nottingham Castle as part of Light Night!


Year 2 Spring 2 2017

In Spring our Topic was ‘Heroes!’ where we be learnt all about people who help us such as policemen, firemen and doctors. We wrote letters to our local police station and PC Pat came to visit us to answer out questions! We also be looked at famous heroes such as Robin Hood and Grace Darling. It was Science Week the first week back and we be learnt all about different types of animals (12A: Omnivores, 2S: Herbivores, 2J: Carnivores).

Take One Picture

A group of Year 2 pupils enjoyed their trip to Nottingham castle for the Take One Picture project.

Coding Club

A small group of Year 2 pupils attended a 6 week block of after school coding sessions using SCRATCH on the school iPads. This was organised & run by NTU trainee Miss Gray. Parents came in on the last session and the children were keen to show them what they had been doing.

Autumn 2016

During Autumn 1, Year 2 learnt all about Victorians and visited Brewhouse Yard to experience life in Victorian schools. We also had special Victorian artefacts delivered to school which we were able to discuss and sketch – we even had a real Victorian desk to sit at! At beginning of term the Year 2s also practised their cycling skills during our ‘Lifecycle’ cycling course.

In Autumn 2, our Topic was ‘We’re Going on an Adventure!’ where we learnt all about Space. We also did lots of singing in preparation for our Christmas Performance of ‘Are We Nearly There Yet?’ as well we learning some new skills such as dancing and playing percussion. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to watch.
